HIGHLIGHTS

Enjoy a luxury trip that is ‘coloured’ by the cuisine of the unspoilt nature of Goriška Brda and Slovenian Istria. The green oases impress all who experience them and fill one with energy. On this trip you will feel a million miles from the worries and hustle and bustle of life.

ITINERARY

Day 1

The bus will depart at 7am from Ljubljana or from an agreed place for groups. The journey begins with a drive to Goriška Brda, where we will wander among the vines with our rucksacks and good spirits. We will admire the landscape, which is awash with various colours throughout the seasons. In the spring, there is an abundance of snow-white plantations of blossoming cherries, while if you come on a trip with us in the summer months, we will be able to treat ourselves to some apricots, peaches or figs directl from the trees. The autumn colours of Goriška Brda are also a sight well worth seeing.

Accompanied by a guide who will reveal many interesting local tales, you will visit locals along the way and enjoy the delicious food they serve. There are as many as 150 winemakers in this small region, and, of course, we will also pay one of them a visit, who will be delighted to welcome us and reveal details of the story of their wine. After the walk, we will have lunch at one of the Brda homesteads, where we will be served typical seasonal Brda food.

The journey continues to the Slovenian coast, to the city that was an island in Roman times. The Venetians, who left the biggest mark in this area, named it Capo d’Istria – the head of Istria. The city is an active and green year-round Mediterranean destination and in 2018 it was awarded a silver Slovenia Green Destination label, which is an internationally recognised assessment of quality and sustainability and at the same time a commitment to a green future. You will set off on a guided tour of the main sights of the city and then we will take time for coffee or a walk by the sea. Thereafter, you will be transported to your hotel where, after settling into your room, you can enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2

After breakfast, we will drive to the Dragonja river valley and to the starting point of our hike. We will start our hiking trail in one of the villages that are far away from the hustle and bustle of life.

We will discover the green image of Slovenian Istria during our time spent in the Dragonja river valley, where we will admire the beautiful nature, the Istrian landscape and listen to stories about people who have left their mark on these places throughout history. We will stop for a picnic along the way in a  clearing, where we will taste home-made, locally grown food.

After our hike, we will get back on board the bus and drive to a local homestead, where you will take part in a workshop on making cooling bath salts. All participants will be able to make their own product and, in addition to the pleasant atmosphere and interesting tales, refreshing drinks and fruit snacks will be provided.

The day ends with a visit to a nearby homestead, where you will be served authentic Istrian dishes. Many visitors to the area are impressed by the local culinary delicacies, such as fusi pasta with truffles, frittata with wild asparagus, prosciutto, bobiči stew and others, and spread the word about Istria far and wide and return time and again.

We will return home in the evening feeling pleasantly tired and full of lasting memories.
