Persimmon and truffles1-day Tour
From: €119.00
HIGHLIGHTS
The magical landscape features crystal-clear blue sea, stunning historical sights and a wealth of flavours, as it has excellent conditions for growing fruit and vegetables throughout the year. Persimmon is one of the most well-known fruits in Istria and every year a persimmon festival takes place in Strunjan. Join us on a trip where, in addition to persimmons, we will also taste other Istrian delicacies and discover other interesting corners of this region.
ITINERARY
The bus will depart at 7am from Maribor or from an agreed place for groups. The journey begins with a drive towards Ljubljana and a stopover enroute to the city that was an island in Roman times. The Venetians, who left the biggest mark in this area, named it Capo d’Istria – the head of Istria. The city is an active and green year-round Mediterranean destination and in 2018 it was awarded a silver Slovenia Green Destination label, which is an internationally recognised assessment of quality and sustainability and at the same time a commitment to a green future. We will take a break for coffee before making the short onward journey to Strunjan.
A persimmon festival is held every year in Strunjan. We will learn all about the processing, drying and use of this fruit and have the opportunity to try different persimmon desserts. After browsing the festival stalls, we will walk to the Strunjan salt pans, see the Stjuža lagoon, and then get back on the bus for the short drive to a place where you will learn about the mysterious world of truffles. An experienced truffle grower will reveal the secrets of this underground tuber, and you will also have the opportunity to taste various truffle products.
The tour ends with a walk through the oldest refosco grapevine in the world, followed by an excellent Istrian dinner featuring authentic Istrian dishes. Many visitors to the area are impressed by the local culinary delicacies, such as fusi pasta with truffles, frittata with wild asparagus, prosciutto, bobiči stew and others, and spread the word about Istria far and wide and return time and again.
