Slovenian Mediterranean and its hinterland.
HIGHLIGHTS
There are a huge number of hidden corners in our beautiful country that many people don’t know. A piece of landscape stretches between the Karst edge and the Adriatic Sea where the climate is especially pleasant, the soil generous, and the people very hospitable. The tradition of the good life of ordinary people is intertwined here with the influences of Venetian culture, which left its roots here early on. Come with us to discover another Slovenian gem!
ITINERARY
The bus will depart at 7am from Maribor or from an agreed place for groups. The journey begins with a drive towards Ljubljana and with a stopover enroute to the city that was an island in Roman times. The Venetians, who left the biggest mark in this area, named it Capo d’Istria – the head of Istria. The city is an active and green year-round Mediterranean destination and in 2018 it was awarded a silver Slovenia Green Destination label, which is an internationally recognised assessment of quality and sustainability and at the same time a commitment to a green future.
The remnants of the Venetian culture that was present in this area for 500 years, when this area also experienced economic and cultural prosperity, have been best preserved in the city and to the greatest extent. We will take a walk through the old town and see the city’s most famous sights. After the tour, we will take time for coffee before continuing our journey to Marežgan hill, where we will get a feel for nature over Istrian cuisine and wine in one of the many vineyards and reminisce about old times and customs.
We will continue onwards to Herbal Paradise, where herbs that have been a part of folk medicine for thousands of years are cultivated with great care. We will take a tour of the living energy labyrinth, which is known to have a very beneficial effect on humankind, because here some people, after a long time, are able to once again experience what peace, serenity and connection with oneself mean.
After relaxing in the energy labyrinth, we will drive to a nearby village, where you will be taken into the world of the finest quality virgin olive oil and Istrian olives and learn about the different varieties of olives, admire the beautiful landscape and, of course, try the products.
The tour ends with a visit to a nearby homestead, where you will be served authentic Istrian dishes. Many visitors to the area are impressed by the local culinary delicacies, such as fusi pasta with truffles, frittata with wild asparagus, prosciutto, bobiči stew and others, and spread the word about Istria far and wide and return time and again.
