HIGHLIGHTS
The story of ‘feldban’ dates back to World War I. In the 6th Battle of the Isonzo in August 1916, the Italian army pushed the Austro-Hungarian army to the left bank of the Soča river, thus interrupting its supply route along the Bohinj railway line. The Austro-Hungarian army accelerated the construction of new sections of narrow-gauge railways – feldbans – for the supply of its units on the Isonzo battlefield and the Banjšice plateau.
ITINERARY
The bus will depart at 8am from Ljubljana or from an agreed place for groups. The journey begins with a drive to Idrija and onwards to the starting point for our hike. Guides will lead us to the most interesting leg of the Idrija branch of the feldban route. The hike leads past the many natural attractions of the UNESCO Global Geopark, and throughout you will listen to an interesting story of the war period. The hiking route leads past numerous natural attractions and beautiful views, including the Idrija Fault, which is one of the largest of its kind in the southern Alpine area.
After the 12km hike, we will board the bus for the journey to a local restaurant for a late lunch, before reboarding the bus for the return trip.
