From: €119.00
Feel the pulse of Slovenian Tuscany.
HIGHLIGHTS
We will take a drive through the charming Brda hills, dotted with cherries and vineyards. Our trip will combine the beauty of the landscape, the cuisine and the energy of the hospitable and friendly locals.
ITINERARY
The bus will depart at 7am from Ljubljana or from an agreed place for groups. The journey begins with a drive via Gorica and onwards to Solkan, where the Soca river leaves the alpine and pre-alpine world and flows across the Soča plain towards the Adriatic Sea. We will discover interesting facts about the stone railway bridge, and admire the Holy Mountain with its basilica from afar, as well as the Sabotin Park of Peace and Gorica Castle. Our journey will continue through the Slovenian landscape that people also like to call Slovenian Tuscany.
Or first stop will be at a viewing platform from where on a clear day there are 360° views far and wide. There are hills and vineyards as far as the eye can see. Goriška Brda is fairly well known, especially among those who like to eat and drink well, as the region is known for its many hilltop vineyards, wineries, wine shops, fruit growers and tourist farms.
Ob vinskih zgodbah in ob prigrizku bomo degustirali nekaj njihovih najbolj znanih sort vina. Pot naprej nas bo vodila do enega številnih briških čebelarjev in pridelovalcev medu, kjer se bomo poučili o pomembnosti čebel za naš prostor, si ogledali panje in seveda na koncu njihove izdelke tudi poskusili.
Given the fact that there are as many as 150 vintners in the region, and that no trip to the area would be complete without a visit to at least one wine cellar, we will start our day with a visit to a famous wine cellar. After a tour, we will taste some of their most famous varieties of wine with an accompanying light snack. We will continue our journey with a visit to one of Brda’s many beekeepers and honey producers, where we will learn about the importance of bees in Slovenia, see the hives and, of course, try their products.
Our journey will continue to the most idyllic village, which can be seen from everywhere in Brda, as it “stands like an eagle’s nest on a very scenic hill” (verse: poet Alojz Gradnik). It used to be a military fortress, but today is a romantic settlement where one has the feeling that time has stopped. In the afternoon we will visit of one Brda’s homesteads, where we will be served lunch featuring typical and seasonal Brda dishes.
Late in the afternoon, the last adventure of a one-day awaits – we will drive to the nearby Sabotin hill, whose location makes it an excellent vantage point. Due to its turbulent history and natural attractions, Sabotin is an important and popular excursion destination in the Goriška region. Today, as a park of peace, it tries to educates visitors about the futility of wars and coexistence between nations. We will head home in the evening, pleasantly tired and full of lasting memories.
