HIGHLIGHTS

In a place between the Kanomljica and Idrijca valleys, where the sky appears to reach to the earth, at an altitude of about 1,000m lies an idyllic hill village. The values of agricultural work and life, a vibrant village community and helping one’s neighbours have been preserved on the plateau, which can also be felt by visiting tourists.

ITINERARY

The bus will depart at 7am from Ljubljana or from an agreed place for groups. The journey begins with a drive through the countryside beneath Mt. Blegoš, whose natural and unique secrets have long been a source of inspiration. Its beauty and tales make the valley a scene of love: for oneself, for one’s neighbours and for nature. Our first stop will be to visit the birthplace of two important Slovenian painters who worked in this area in the second half of the 19th century. We will visit the local cultural centre with its interesting museum collection, which leads visitors into a real creative experience, and also see caricatures of other famous people from the area.

After the visit, we will drive onwards towards the town that lies in the wide valley of the Idrijca river, above the confluence of the Idrijca and Kanomljica streams. Numerous beautiful peaks rise up above the area and there are hiking trails that attract hikers in all seasons. Friendly, resourceful and hard-working people have found their home in an area ‘where even the flat plains are upright’ and where many people couldn’t imagine living. Solitary farms still stand on the steep banks above the Idrijca river today, where through hard work generations have persevered over the centuries, but today only a few still do so.

We will set off on a 9km hike, which is not demanding, but rather offers a unique experience in a ‘world without noise and the race against time’ – an experience of the power of medicinal herbs and excellent dairy products from two local farms.

After our hike we will stop for dinner at a local restaurant, then, pleasantly tired, get back on board the bus for the return journey.

You do not need to. We stop in small towns, villages, and rural eateries where you can choose whatever meal pleases both your taste buds and your budget.
